Italy (Venice, Verona, and Milan)

Italy with kids doesn’t have to mean rushing through museums or blowing your budget. On our family trip through Venice, Verona, and Milan with two young kids, we focused on walkable neighborhoods, simple food, and experiences that felt magical without being expensive.

We managed to get plane tickets for $430 round trip each (CVG to Milan) using my favorite travel booking site for deals-I tell you all about it includes my travel itinerary below!

We ended up in Italy for a week total and did three days Venice, two days Verona, and two days Milan. I loved this timeline for us as we did a day in Lido while in Venice (STRONGLY recommend).

Venice: Slow Down & Let the City Be the Attraction
Venice is a dream for kids—boats instead of cars, narrow alleys, and endless bridges to cross. We skipped pricey gondola rides and opted for the vaporetto, which felt just as exciting for a fraction of the cost. Wandering, snacking on pizza by the slice, and watching boats glide by was more than enough to keep little legs happy.

Verona: Small, Affordable, and Kid-Friendly
Verona was the perfect break from the crowds. It’s compact, calmer, and easy to explore with kids. We loved letting our girls run around open piazzas, grabbing gelato, and keeping sightseeing light. It’s an ideal stop if you want Italy vibes without Italy-level prices.

Milan: Modern Italy Meets Family

Milan surprised us in the best way. While it’s often seen as a fast-paced city, it’s incredibly manageable with kids when you know where to go. We focused on wide pedestrian areas, simple attractions, and using public transport to keep costs down.
